Before beginning the cleaning process, you will need a few items. You’ll need paper towels, white vinegar, laundry detergent, and a vacuum cleaner. You'll also want to put on gloves, an apron, and boots. Once you’ve gathered the necessary supplies, the next step is to prepare your area.
First, vacuum the entire area where the stain is located. This will help to remove any dirt and pet hair from the fibers. Make sure to use the nozzle attachment and cover whole area. If the stain is very large, be sure to take extra care and make several passes with the vacuum.
Once the area is prepped, you’re ready to tackle stain. Start by applying white vinegar directly onto the stain. The vinegar acts as a natural deodorizer, so it’s especially effective in removing pet odors. Leave the vinegar on the stain for 15 minutes before blotting it up with a paper towel.
After you’ve removed the excess liquid, it’s time to clean the fibers. To do this, mix a solution of laundry detergent and warm water and apply it directly onto the stain. Scrub the fibers gently with a soft brush or cloth. This will help to loosen any remaining particles and release the stain from fibers.
Once you’ve scrubbed the fibers, you’ll need to dry the area. Make sure to use a dry cloth or towel to blot the stain until it is no longer visible. If area is still wet, it’s important to use a fan or open window to help speed up the drying process.
After area is completely dry, it’s time to finish up. Vacuum the entire area one more time to remove any particles that may have been left behind. Give the area one last look-over to make sure that the stain is completely gone, and you’re all set!
