What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Paper towels
  • Laundry detergent
  • Clean cloth

1. Blot Excess Moisture

Before you do anything else, grab some paper towels and gently dab the stain. Don't rub it or you might spread the stain further, or even push it deeper into the fibers. Keep blotting until as much liquid as possible has been absorbed.

2. Make a Cleaning Solution

Vinegar and baking soda are great natural ingredients that can get rid of tough stains and odors. In a bowl, mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with two tablespoons of baking soda and one cup of warm water. Stir the mixture until it is completely dissolved.

3. Apply the Cleaning Solution

Gently pour the cleaning solution onto the stain and use a clean cloth to work it into the fabric. Make sure to get edges of the stain to ensure the entire area gets cleaned. Allow the solution to sit for 10-15 minutes.

4. Blot Up the Mixture

Using a clean cloth or paper towels, blot up the cleaning solution. Work from the edges of the stain toward the middle to avoid spreading the stain further. Keep blotting until there is no more moisture.

5. Wash the Fabric

If necessary, add a bit of laundry detergent to the fabric and either machine- or hand-wash it. Make sure to follow instructions on the fabric's care label for best results. Don't place it in the dryer until you make sure the stain has been completely removed.
