Choose the Right Cleaning Products

The first step in removing pet stains from your activewear is to choose right cleaning products. For fabrics like polyester, spandex, and nylon, look for detergents that are specifically designed for activewear. These detergents are formulated to remove sweat and oil stains, as well as pet stains. If the tag on your activewear says “dry-clean only,” then it’s best to take it to a professional dry cleaner.

Handwashing Your Activewear

Once you’ve chosen the right cleaning product, it’s time to get to work. Start by soaking your activewear in warm water with a few spoonfuls of detergent. Once the activewear is saturated, use a soft-bristled brush to gently agitate the fabric and lift the stain. To get rid of any lingering odors, add one part vinegar to three parts warm water and soak the garment overnight. In the morning, rinse the activewear thoroughly. For heavily soiled clothing, you may need to repeat this process several times.

Machine Washing Your Activewear

If you’d rather not handwash your activewear, you can also machine wash it. Start by pre-treating stain with a mild laundry detergent. Rub the detergent into the fabric and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Next, place the garment in the washing machine and set the machine to the gentle cycle. To remove any stubborn stains, you may need to pre-treat the garment with a stain remover prior to washing.

Drying Your Activewear

Once your activewear has been washed and rinsed, it’s time to dry it. To ensure that the garment maintains its shape and color, hang it up to air dry. Avoid using the dryer, as it can cause the fabric to shrink and fade. If the garment is made of a delicate material, lightly press it while damp with a clean towel to absorb any remaining moisture. Once it’s completely dry, your activewear should be good as new!
