What You'll Need

  • A few paper towels
  • Clean water
  • Heavy-duty laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Clothespins or pins

Instructions

  1. Start by soaking up as much of the sweat stain as possible with a paper towel. Blot, don't rub. This will prevent the stain from spreading around the fabric.
  2. Mix together one part heavy-duty laundry detergent and one part cold clean water.
  3. Using a clean cloth dipped in detergent mix, gently dab (don't scrub) at the perspiration stain. You'll want to keep the stain damp so it can absorb the soap.
  4. Pour white vinegar directly onto the stain and let it sit for about ten minutes.
  5. Rinse the area with cold clean water and then blot the area dry.
  6. Pin the fabric to a hanger and hang outside in direct sunlight. The heat of the sun will help lift the perspiration stain out of the fabric. Be careful not to over expose the fabric to the sun. Too much direct sunlight can cause fading.

Tips and Warnings

  • Test the detergent mixture on a hidden area of the fabric first to make sure it won't damage the material.
  • Don't machine wash garment. Perspiration stains are water soluble so they won't come out in wash.
