Handwash Method

To start, fill a large bowl (or sink) with lukewarm water and add a tablespoon of a mild detergent. Next, submerge your swimsuit in the water and gently agitate it in a circular motion with your hands. Finally, rinse it off with fresh, cold water and pat dry with a clean towel.

Machine Wash Method

If the stains are more stubborn, it’s best to use a washing machine. First, turn your garment inside out to protect the outside colors and add a capful of gentle detergent. Make sure to select a delicate cycle and cold water to avoid shrinkage. Afterward, hang the swimwear on a clothing line or lay it flat and avoid direct sunlight.

Spot Treatments

For trouble spots, dab the stain with a wet cloth soaked in white vinegar. Allow it to sit for several minutes before rinsing. You can also apply a small amount of baking soda and rub it in with your fingers. Once the spot is gone, rinse the area with warm water and pat dry.

Pro Tips

  • Be sure to let your swimsuit dry completely before storing in a drawer or cupboard.
  • Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners as these can break down the elastic.
  • If the stains are proving difficult to remove, take your swimsuit to a professional cleaner.
