Perspiration stains can be a real nuisance when trying to keep your favorite sneakers looking pristine. They don't just look nasty, but left untreated they can damage the fabric of shoes, making them smell bad and reducing their lifespan.
Fortunately, it's super easy to get rid of perspiration stains if you know the right techniques. Here's a step-by-step guide to effectively remove sweat stains from your beloved sneakers.
This is an important step to get the bulk of the stain out before applying any cleaning agents. Submerge your sneakers in a basin of cold water and let them soak for about 30 minutes. Don't use hot water or you might shrink the fabric of your shoes.
Once soaking is done, prepare a vinegar solution by combining one part white vinegar with one part cold water. The vinegar will break down the salt in the perspiration and begin to lift stain.
Using a clean cloth, gently blot the vinegar solution onto the perspiration stains. Let the solution sit for at least 15 minutes, allowing the vinegar to break down salt in the sweat.
After the vinegar has had time to work its magic, machine wash your sneakers on a gentle cycle with a detergent of your choice. Make sure to set the machine to cold water.
Once the washing cycle is done, remove your sneakers from machine and let them air dry, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. This will help prevent further discoloration and damage.
Following these steps should help you successfully remove perspiration stains from your beloved sneakers. Plus, it's a great way to extend the life of your shoes and keep them looking good as new.
