Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

Begin by pre-treating fabric. In a spray bottle, mix 4 parts water and 1 part white vinegar, or use an oxygen-based bleach. Spray the affected area and allow it to soak until the stain lifts, then rinse with cold water.

Step 2: Use Detergent & Cold Water

Mix detergent (a mild laundry detergent should do the trick) and cold water in a bucket or bowl. Soak the skirt in solution for about an hour, then rinse with cool water.

Step 3: Apply Stain Remover to Perspiration Stains

Apply a product specifically made for removing perspiration stains. Be sure to read the directions on package and follow them accordingly. Allow the product to set for a few minutes, and then rinse with cool water.

Step 4: Wash the Skirt

Wash the skirt in the washing machine, using the cold water cycle. Add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse water. This will help to further remove any remaining residues. If possible, air dry skirt.

Step 5: Sanitize the Skirt

After skirt has been thoroughly treated and washed, sanitize it. Place skirt in a garment bag and freeze it for 24 hours; this will kill any bacteria that may still linger. After the allotted time, thaw the skirt in a warm, sunny spot and hang it to dry.
