  • Stain remover
  • Baking soda
  • Oxygen bleach

Step 1: Blot Fresh Stains Immediately

As soon as you notice a perspiration stain, it’s important to take action. The longer it sits, the harder it is to remove. Take a soft cloth and gently blot the affected area, applying pressure to absorb as much of the moisture as possible. Don’t scrub or rub; this can cause stain to set.

Step 2: Pre-Treat With Mild Detergent

Mix one teaspoon of mild detergent with one cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth in solution and blot the affected area. Don’t rub; use the same blotting technique as described above. This will help pre-treat the stain and loosen it before laundering.

Step 3: Rinse With White Vinegar

Fill a spray bottle with one part white vinegar and two parts cold water. Spray the stained area and allow the vinegar solution to soak in for five minutes. This will help neutralize any odors left behind by the perspiration as well as help break down the stain.

Step 4: Treat With Stain Remover

For tougher stains, you may need to use a stain remover. Look for an oxygen-based product designed specifically for silk fabrics. Place the remover on stain and allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes. Then launder on the delicate cycle with cold water.

Step 5: Air Dry Out of Direct Sunlight

Once your clothing is washed, hang it up to air dry. Make sure the fabric is out of direct sunlight as too much heat can set the stain. If after drying you still see mark, repeat steps 2–5 until it’s gone.

Step 6: Cover Stubborn Stains With Baking Soda

For extremely stubborn stains, try covering the area with baking soda. Let it sit overnight and then brush off in the morning. If the stain is still there, repeat steps 2–5.

Conclusion

Removing perspiration stains from silk satin may seem like a daunting proposition. But with a few simple steps and the right materials, you can quickly and easily eliminate these unsightly marks. Just remember to blot stain immediately, treat it with gentle detergents and stain removers, and always air dry out of direct sunlight.
