The first step to removing perspiration stains from silk is to blot the stained area with a damp cloth using a gentle dabbing motion. Don't rub, as this may damage the fabric. Be sure to use a matching color cloth—for white silk, use a white cloth, and so on.
Mix two teaspoons of mild detergent with one cup of warm water. As you mix, make sure to dissolve the detergent completely. Never use a laundry detergent that contains bleach or other harsh chemicals, as they can damage delicate fibers of the silk fabric.
Dip a clean cloth into the detergent mixture and apply to the perspiration stain. In a circular motion, gently massage mixture until you start to see some of the stain fade away. Work slowly and delicately to avoid damaging the silk fibers. Once the stain has been lifted, rinse with a clean cloth dipped in cold water.
Once the silk has been cleaned, lay it flat on a towel or rack and allow it to dry. Never hang silk garments in direct sunlight or dry them using a clothes dryer. This will cause the fibers to become brittle and could even lead to fabric damage.
