Perspiration stains are one of those cleaning challenges that can seem almost impossible to tackle. You don't want to put your delicate pullover into the washer only to find that the stain has set and won't come out. But fear not, as we can help you with that.
Before washing your pullover, you need to pre-treat the perspiration stains as best you can. Fill a sink or bucket with cold water and add a few drops of liquid laundry detergent. Use a toothbrush or other soft bristled brush to rub the detergent onto the affected area gently. Leave the pullover soaking in the water for about an hour, and then rinse it in cold water.
Once you have finished pre-treating stain, you need to wash your pullover on a gentle cycle, using a mild detergent. This is important because aggressive or too harsh detergents may cause additional damage to the fabric. If you are washing white pullovers, use either hot or cold water, but if your pullover is a darker color, stick to cold water.
Once your pullover is washed and rinsed, it's time to hang or lay it flat to air dry. Do not put your pullover in the dryer, as the heat may set the stain and make it even harder to remove. Leave your pullover in a well-ventilated room to air dry and avoid any direct sunlight.
If any stain remains, repeat the pre-treatment and washing steps as needed.
