The first step is to pre-treat the stain. If the perspiration stain has been on the poncho for a while, you may need to soak it first. Use cold water and a gentle detergent or stain remover, and soak the item for at least 15 minutes.
Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, the next step is to wash the poncho. If your poncho is made from a delicate fabric, you should use a gentle cycle on your washing machine with cold water. Even if your poncho isn’t delicate, it's always best to err on the side of caution when washing any type of clothing item.
After you’ve washed your poncho, make sure to air dry it. Hang it up on a clothesline, or lay it flat on a towel until completely dry. Avoid using the dryer, as this can cause shrinkage and damage to the fabric of the poncho.
If there is still a stain after washing, spot treat it using a stain remover or baking soda paste. Apply it directly to the affected area and let it sit for a few minutes before washing again. Repeat these steps until stain is completely gone.
By following these simple steps, you can keep your ponchos looking great even after perspiration stains have set in. With a little bit of patience and the right cleaning method, you’ll be able to restore your ponchos to their original luster in no time.
