Pre-Treat with Water & Detergent

Before you attempt to get rid of perspiration stains, you should pre-treat the garment with water and detergent. This is important for two reasons: to ensure the stain is completely removed, and to prevent damaging the fabric. To do this, fill a sink or bucket with cold or lukewarm (never hot) water, and dissolve one tablespoon of gentle detergent in it. Then, gently submerge the garment into water, and let it soak for about 15 minutes.

Rub Stains with a Stain Remover

Once you’ve pre-treated the garment, rub any visible perspiration stains with a stain remover. Be sure to select a product that is formulated for removing sweat stains, such as Shout Advanced Gel, which is available at most stores. Rub the stain remover onto the affected area using a scrubbing brush or an old toothbrush. Let it sit for around 10 to 15 minutes.

Machine Wash & Air Dry

After you’ve applied the stain remover, machine wash the garment according to the instructions on label, and air dry it afterwards. Avoid putting the garment in the dryer, as heat may cause the stain to set in even further. Once it’s dry, check if the perspiration stains are still visible, and if they are, repeat the process. With these simple steps, your Paul Smith garment should be back to looking its best in no time.
