What You Will Need

Before you start cleaning your lace garment, it’s important to gather the right supplies first. Here’s what you will need:

  • Towel
  • Mild detergent
  • Soft brush (like a toothbrush)
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Place to hang your item (clothesline or shower rod)

Step 1: Absorb the Excess Moisture

The first step is to take a dry towel and gently press it against the areas on your lace garment that are stained with perspiration. This will absorb any excess moisture in fabric and make it easier to clean.

Step 2: Spot Clean the Stains

Once you have absorbed the excess moisture, you can begin spot cleaning the stains. Start by mixing a small amount of mild detergent with a few drops of water. Using a soft brush, like an old toothbrush, gently scrub stained areas in a circular motion.

Step 3: Rinse the Area

After you’ve finished scrubbing the stained areas, rinse them with cold water until the soap suds are gone. Don’t rub the area too hard or you might damage the lace.

Step 4: Apply a Vinegar Solution

If the stains still remain, try applying a vinegar solution. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 3 cups of warm water in a bucket or bowl. Dip a cloth or brush in the solution and gently scrub the stained areas. Let solution sit for 5 minutes then rinse with cold water.

Step 5: Spot Treat with Baking Soda

If the stains are still visible, try spot treating them with baking soda. Start by sprinkling baking soda directly on the stained areas. Gently massage the baking soda into fabric with your fingers. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then brush off the excess powder.

Step 6: Hang to Dry

Finally, hang your garment to air dry. Never tumble dry, as this can shrink or ruin delicate lace fabric.
