Frequent use of your favorite handbag can leave an unsightly mark from sweat or other body oils, leaving it looking dirty. It's an embarrassing problem, but don’t worry, you can easily get rid of the stains and have your handbag looking good as new with the tips below.

What You’ll Need To Do:

  • Gather cleaning materials
  • Choose right cleaning solution for your handbag material
  • Test the cleaning solution on a small hidden area first
  • Clean the stained area
  • Check for colorfastness
  • Let it air dry

Gather Cleaning Materials:

Prepare all the necessary materials before starting the cleaning process. You’ll need some mild detergent, warm water, and a soft microfiber cloth.

Choose the Right Cleaning Solution for Your Handbag Material:

The type of cleaning solution that you’ll need will depend on the material of your handbag. For instance, if you have a leather handbag, you’ll need a cleaner designed specifically for leather. For canvas, waxed cotton, and other fabrics, you can use a mild detergent. Avoid using abrasive cleaning products because this may damage material.

Test the Cleaning Solution on a Small Hidden Area First:

It is important to test the cleaning solution on a small hidden area of the handbag to make sure it does not change the color or texture of the material. Make sure you read the instructions on the cleaner and follow the directions carefully.

Clean Stained Area:

Once you have chosen the right cleaning solution and tested it on a small spot, you can start the cleaning process. Dip the microfiber cloth in the cleaning solution and wring out excess liquid. Gently rub the cloth on the stained area in a circular motion. Work quickly so that cleaner does not dry on the handbag. Make sure the cloth is frequently rinsed in clean water. When finished, wipe off any remaining cleaner with a damp cloth.

Check for Colorfastness:

Once you’ve finished cleaning the stained area, you need to check for colorfastness. To do this, take a white cloth and dampen it with cold water. Gently rub it on the area you just cleaned and check if the color transferred to the cloth. If color transferred, then the material of your bag is not colorfast and should be cleaned with a dry cloth only.

Let It Air Dry:

Once you’ve finished cleaning your handbag, let it air dry. Don’t put the bag in the sun and avoid using a blow dryer to speed up the drying process as this could damage the material of your bag.

By following these steps, you can easily remove perspiration stains from your handbag and keep it looking good as new.
