No one likes to have their clothing stained with perspiration, and it’s especially problematic for people who wear traditional Korean hanbok. But there is good news - perspiration stains don’t need to be a permanent fixture on your hanbok! With a few simple steps, you can get rid of these stains quickly and easily.

Steps for Removing Perspiration Stains from Hanbok

  1. Start by checking the care instructions label on your hanbok for specific cleaning instructions, as different fabrics may require different methods.
  2. Make a solution of 1 tablespoon of mild detergent and 1 quart of cold water, and mix until the solution is sudsy.
  3. Dip a clean white cloth into the sudsy solution, then gently blot the soiled areas.
  4. Continue blotting until the stain has been completely removed.
  5. If the stain persists, make a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water, and dip a clean white cloth into the mixture.
  6. Gently blot the area with this solution until the stain has been completely removed.
  7. Rinse the stained area with cold water and pat dry with a clean towel.
  8. Allow the hanbok to air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight.

Tips for Avoiding Perspiration Stains in the Future

  • Wear an undershirt beneath your hanbok to help absorb perspiration before it reaches the fabric.
  • Make sure to stay cool and hydrated while wearing your hanbok.
  • Change out of your hanbok as soon as possible after sweating or getting wet.

With a few simple steps and some know-how, you can keep your hanbok looking great and free from perspiration stains!
