One of the easiest ways to remove perspiration stains from hair ties is with a few simple household ingredients. White vinegar is an excellent cleaning agent and could be used in a vinegar solution-- mix three parts water and one part vinegar in a bowl. Let the hair ties soak in mixture for 10 minutes, then take them out and rinse with clean, cool water. If necessary, you can use a gentle brush to break up suds, rubbing in a circular motion.

Another option is to use a mild detergent-- mix two teaspoons of detergent with a cup of warm water. Soak the hair ties in the detergent solution for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water. If necessary, you can follow up with a vinegar solution afterwards.

If you don’t have any detergent on hand, baking soda and lemon juice can also do the trick. Make a paste using equal parts baking soda and warm water, then rub the paste onto the hair ties. Allow paste to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with clean water. For added odor-fighting power, add one teaspoon of lemon juice to the paste.

When dealing with perspiration stains, it's important to remember that prevention is key. Try to keep your hair ties as dry as possible, and store them in a cool, dry place when not in use. And, if you use fabric hair ties, make sure to machine wash them at least once a week.
