Habutai is a smooth, lightweight silk cloth that is often used in Japanese kimonos. Due to its fragile nature, however, it can be easily damaged by harsh chemicals or cleaning methods. If you've got perspiration stains on your Habutai, here's what you should do.
Before you begin cleaning your Habutai, it is best to pre-treat stains with a stain remover that is suitable for use on delicates. Choose a spray-on formula for best results. Simply spray the remover on stained areas and leave it for several minutes before continuing to the next step.
Once the pre-treatment has been done, fill a basin with cold water and some gentle detergent. Soak the Habutai in the soapy water for about 15 minutes, then rinse with fresh cold water. Do not rub, wring or twist the fabric when washing, as this could cause damage.
After item has been washed, hang it to air dry in a well-ventilated area. Do not put Habutai in the tumble dryer, as this can cause it to shrink and/or lose its shape. Once the item is dry, inspect the stains to determine if they have been removed. If not, you may need to repeat the pre-treatment and hand washing process one more time.
