Remove Fresh Sweat Stains

If the sweat stain is fresh and hasn’t had time to set, rinse it immediately with cold water. If it’s not possible to rinse the fabric right away, you can blot the fabric with a clean, damp cloth to remove as much of the moisture as possible. Once fabric has been rinsed or blotted, lay it flat and allow it to air dry.

Treat Set-In Sweat Stains

For sweat stains that have already set into the fabric, mix a solution of equal parts vinegar and water and apply the solution to stain. Let it sit for 30 minutes before submerging fabric in cold water and washing it as you normally would with your regular detergent.

Try a Store-Bought Stain Remover

If your fabric is too delicate for handwashing, or if the stain persists after washing, you can treat it with a store-bought stain remover. Be sure to read the instructions on the packaging carefully, as different stain removers may have different instructions for use. Also, be sure to test product on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric first to make sure it won't damage the material.

Prevent Future Sweat Stains

Once you've got sweat stains out of your cotton poplin fabric, you'll want to do what you can to prevent new ones from forming. When wearing the garment, consider using a sweat pad under your arms to absorb excess moisture. You should also wash the fabric regularly, and stay away from fabric softener, which can make the fabric more prone to staining.
