Steps for Removing Perspiration Stains from Cotton Oxford

  1. Mix one part white vinegar with one part water in a spray bottle.
  2. Spray the area of stain generously with the vinegar solution.
  3. Allow vinegar to sit for at least 10 minutes, then blot the area with a paper towel.
  4. Create a solution of one tablespoon of mild detergent and one cup of lukewarm water.
  5. Dip an old toothbrush into the detergent solution and gently scrub the stained area to work soap into the fibers of the fabric.
  6. Rinse the area in cold running water until all traces of the detergent are gone.
  7. Allow fabric to air dry completely before wearing.

Repeat If Necessary

If the stain persists, you may need to repeat the process. Additionally, if you have trouble removing the stain, you can try soaking the garment overnight in a bowl of hot water and laundry detergent.

Caring for Cotton Oxford Fabrics

It is important to treat perspiration stains quickly, as acidic nature of sweat can cause lasting damage to cotton oxford fabrics. To minimize future staining, it is important to hang your shirt to dry after each wear, and refrain from using fabric softeners, which can leave residue on the fabric and attract more dirt.
