Removing Perspiration Stains from Coats

  • Mix 1 part white vinegar with 1 part water. Place the mixture in a spray bottle and spray the affected area liberally.
  • Using a soft bristled brush, scrub the affected area to remove the stain. Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing.
  • Mix a solution of ¼ teaspoon of a gentle liquid detergent and 1 quart of cool water. Soak the affected area of coat for 15-20 minutes.
  • Rinse the area thoroughly with cold water and blot with a clean cloth until dry.

Preventing Perspiration Stains on Coats

  • Clean your coat regularly. As soon as you notice perspiration stains, treat them as soon as possible.
  • Choose sweat-wicking fabrics for your coats. Synthetic fabrics and natural fibers such as wool and silk are good choices for keeping moisture away from your skin.
  • When wearing your coat, ventilate the area under your arms by undoing buttons or zippers.
