If stain is still fresh, you have better chances of eliminating it completely. You can do this either at home or in the dry cleaner’s.
1. At Home
- Mix a solution of one part vinegar with two parts water.
- Test the fabric for colorfastness by dabbing a bit of the solution to an unseen part of the clothing item.
- If it does not leave any discoloration, moisten a soft cloth or sponge with solution and gently rub the stained area.
- Rinse with cold water and continue to rinse until no trace of vinegar is left on the cleaned area.
- Let garment air-dry, preferably outside in the sun.
2. Take It to the Dry Cleaner
- Take the garment to the dry cleaner as soon as possible. Explain what has happened and ask for their advice.
- Once the garment is taken care of, always follow the cleaning instructions to make sure the stain does not come back.
