Pre-Treating the Stain

Before treating the stain, remove any excess sweat and rinse the stain with cold water as soon as possible. Use a small amount of laundry detergent on the stain, being careful not to rub it in too much. Check the care tag on the garment to see if it can safely be put in the washing machine.

Using Soap and Water

For cotton and polyester fabrics, mix 1 tablespoon of soap or liquid detergent with 2 cups of cool water in a bowl or other container. Dip a white cloth into the mixture, wring out the excess water and dab stained area. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.

Using Vinegar

If the stain remains after pre-treating and using soap and water, mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar with 1 quart of warm water and dip a white cloth in the mixture. Dab stained area and repeat as necessary until the stain disappears. Let the garment air dry.

Using Baking Soda

Baking soda is another great option for removing perspiration stains on fabrics such as cotton and polyester. Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/4 cup of warm water and stir until baking soda dissolves. Dip a clean cloth in mixture and dab the stained area until the stain is gone. Rinse the area with cold water and let it air dry.
