Step 1: Identify the Fabric

The type of fabric used to make your Banana Republic garment will determine the best way to clean it. Check the care tag to figure out if the garment is made from cotton, linen, polyester, or any other type of material.

Step 2: Pre-Treat Stain

If the garment has already been washed and dried, fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild liquid detergent. Soak stained area for at least 15 minutes, then use a soft brush to lightly scrub the area in a circular motion. Rinse garment and repeat process if necessary.

Step 3: Wash Garment

After pre-treating the stain, machine-wash garment in cold water with a mild liquid detergent. If the care tag recommends it, you can also add ½ cup of white vinegar to wash cycle.

Step 4: Air Dry

Once the cycle is finished, hang the garment up to air dry. Do not place the garment in the dryer, as the heat may set the stain.

Additional Tips

  • For more stubborn stains, you can apply a specialty stain remover before washing.
  • If the stain is still present after washing, do not dry it in the dryer. Instead, soak the item in a mixture of warm water and laundry detergent for an hour, then repeat washing process.
  • When in doubt, refer to the care label on the garment for instructions.
