What You'll Need

  • White towels or paper towels
  • Cleaning solution such as wool detergent, club soda, or enzyme cleaner
  • Bucket filled with warm water and white vinegar in a ratio of 1 to 10
  • Vacuum cleaner

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. As soon as you notice a perspiration stain on your area rug, blot it with a white towel or paper towel. Don’t rub or scrub the stain.
  2. Spray the stain with a cleaning solution of your choice. Let the cleaning solution sit for five to ten minutes.
  3. Mix a bucket of warm water and white vinegar in a ratio of 1 to 10.
  4. Using a clean white towel, dip towel into the water-vinegar mixture and gently remove the cleaning solution and perspiration stain from your rug.
  5. Once stain is gone, allow your area rug to air dry completely before vacuuming or using it again.

Additional Tips

  • If the stain persists after following steps above, contact a professional carpet cleaner for assistance.
  • Make sure to read the label of your cleaning product or detergent to make sure it is safe to use on the type of rug you have.
  • If the stain is still wet, try to dab or blot stain instead of rubbing or scrubbing it.
