Step 1: Pre-Soak the Stained Area

Fill a bucket or sink with cold water, and add 1/4 cup of liquid detergent or laundry pre-soak. Then submerge the stained area of the clothing and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. If the stain is especially stubborn, you can increase the soaking time to an hour or more.

Step 2: Launder the Clothing

After the pre-soaking is complete, take the clothing item out of the soapy water and rinse it directly under a stream of warm water. Next, place the garment in washer and select a gentle cycle. For best results, use warm water and add a dose of enzyme-based laundry detergent.

Step 3: Tumble Dry

Remove the garment from the washing machine, and transfer it to dryer. Depending on fabric and the level of staining, select a medium setting or lower. When the cycle is done, inspect the clothing item for any remaining residue.

Bonus Tips

  • Add one cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle for extra odor and stain removal.
  • For colored fabrics, use a mild bleach alternative like hydrogen peroxide.
  • If all else fails, visit a professional dry cleaner to help remove the stain.
