Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

Before any washing takes place, it's important to pre-treat the stain to make sure it lifts easily. You can do this by using a stain remover or some rubbing alcohol. Using a cloth, apply remover to the affected area and rub gently. Then let the item sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing out the pre-treatment solution.

Step 2: Wash as Usual

Once pre-treatment is complete, you can wash item as normal. Depending on the type of fabric you're dealing with, it's best to choose a gentle cycle and a cold setting. For color-safe items, you may need to use a mild detergent, but if it's a white item, then a stronger detergent could be used. Make sure you check the care label before washing.

Step 3: Check After Washing

Once you have washed the item, check to see if stain has lifted. If it has, then the job is done. If not, repeat Steps 1 and 2 again. In some cases, you may need to enlist the help of a professional cleaner to get rid of stubborn pencil stains.
