With an old toothbrush, gently brush away at the stained area of the trench coat. Try to get as much of the pencil lead out as possible. Do this until the mark is no longer visible.
To pretreat the stain, mix a tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent into half a liter of warm water. Dip a cloth in the solution and apply it to the stain. Leave it for about 10 minutes, then rinse the area with cold water.
Once the stain has been removed and pretreated, set your washing machine to a gentle cycle. Use a mild detergent, such as Woolite® or Ivory Snow®, and wash the trench coat according to its care label instructions. Let the coat air dry after laundering.
Good as new! With this three-step process, you can easily remove pencil stains from your trench coat and make it look like new again.
