Using Warm Water and Dish Soap

This is the first method that you should try. Start by wetting the stained area with warm water. Then, add a small amount of liquid dish soap to the stained area, rubbing it gently into the fabric. Allow the soap to sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off with clean, warm water. Repeat this process several times if necessary.

Using Rubbing Alcohol

If stain isn't coming out with the warm water and dish soap method, try using rubbing alcohol. Start by using a standard-size cotton ball and dipping it in rubbing alcohol. Apply the rubbing alcohol to the pencil stain, gently rubbing it into the fabric. Wait a few minutes before rinsing off rubbing alcohol with clean, warm water. Repeat this process until stain has been removed.

Using White Vinegar and Baking Soda

Another great option for removing pencil stains from sweaters is to use a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda. Start by mixing equal parts of white vinegar and baking soda together in a bowl. Once the mixture is ready, apply it directly to pencil stain, rubbing it gently into the fabric. Allow mixture to sit for a few minutes, then rinse it off with clean, warm water. This should help to remove the pencil stain.

Additional Tips

  • Allow the sweater to air dry after the stain is removed.
  • Never machine wash or dry a sweater that has a pencil stain on it.
  • Be sure to test any of the cleaning products used on a small, discrete part of the fabric before treating entire stain.
