Pencil stains can be a nightmare when it comes to suits. Whether it’s from a scratch, a broken mechanical pencil, or just an accidental smudge, pencil stains can be difficult to remove from suits. But don't worry, with a little know-how and some common household items, you can have your suit back in tip-top shape in no time.

Removing Pencil Stains without Laundering

If you prefer not to wash suit, there are some easy and effective methods to try first. An eraser is one of the easiest and most natural remedies to try. Using a regular white eraser or a gum eraser, gently rub the stain in a circular motion until the stain is removed.

If the eraser doesn't do the trick, you can try removing the pencil stain using hairspray. Just spray the stained area with hairspray and let it sit for several minutes. Hairspray contains alcohol and other ingredients that can help dissolve the stain and make it easier to remove. After letting the hairspray sit for a few minutes, dab it away with a soft cloth and lukewarm water.

Removing Pencil Stains through Laundering

For tougher stains, washing the garment may be necessary. Before laundering the suit, it's important to pre-treat the stain. Start by dabbing the stained area with a mild detergent. Rub detergent into the stain, then let it sit for 30 minutes before washing. Be sure to use a gentle or delicate setting while washing to protect fabric of the suit.

Once the suit has been washed, hang it up to air dry. If the pencil stain is still visible, repeat the pre-soaking and laundering process until it is completely gone.

Preventing Pencil Stains

The best way to deal with pencil stains is to avoid them altogether. Be sure to store your suit in a clean and dry place, away from pens, pencils and other sharp objects. Use a pencil case or holder when carrying any writing instruments in the same pocket as your suit.

Finally, if you do find yourself with a pencil stain on your suit, don't panic! Generally, pencil stains can be easily removed with the right products and techniques. With a little bit of patience, you can restore your suit to its former glory.
