Pencil stains often appear on light colored silks or taffetas, and although they look daunting it's surprisingly easy to remove them with the right supplies. Here's how to do it:
- Start by dabbing the spot with a damp cloth. Don't scrub! This will help to lift the pencil mark slightly.
- Mix one part dishwashing liquid with two parts cold water. Dip a soft bristled brush into the mixture and gentle swirl onto the affected area.
- Rinse the area with clean water until all soap is removed. It should help to lighten pencil mark.
- If the pencil mark persists, mix one teaspoon of white vinegar with one pint of cold water. Apply this to the stain and let it sit for up to 10 minutes. Do not rub as this can cause the stain to spread.
- Rinse the area with clean water again and pencil mark should have fully disappeared. If it hasn't, you may need to repeat the process.
- Allow the area to air dry completely before wearing or using the fabric.
Following these steps will make it easy to remove pencil marks from delicate taffetas, without damaging the fabric or having to go to a professional cleaner. So don't be afraid of those pesky pencil marks - you can totally handle this at home!
