Pencil marks can appear on clothing in a variety of ways – from homework assignments to distracted shopping trips, children’s activities, and more. Whichever way it got there, pencil marks on shorts can feel like a laundry nightmare. Thankfully, there is an easy solution to restoring your shorts to their former glory.
Start by using a small brush, such as a toothbrush, to brush away any excess pencil lead from the fabric. This will help prevent the pencil lead from further setting into the fabric and make it easier to remove the remaining stain.
Mix two parts white vinegar with one part water, then submerge the stained area in the mixture for at least 15 minutes. The acidity of vinegar helps to break down the pencil lead and make it easier to remove.
Gently rub some laundry detergent into the stained area, then place the item in the washing machine and set it to a warm wash cycle. This will help to remove any remaining pencil lead and restore fabric fibers to their original state.
For particularly stubborn stains, you may need to treat the area with hydrogen peroxide. Apply a small amount to the stain and let it sit for 10-20 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Repeat this process until the stain has been removed.
Once stain has been removed, it is important to thoroughly dry the clothes before storing or wearing them. This will help to prevent the stain from coming back.
