Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Dish soap
  • Soft cloths
  • Dry cleaning solvent (optional)

Instructions

  1. Apply a layer of baking soda onto the stained area, making sure to cover the entire stained area. Let baking soda sit on the fabric for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts dish soap. Dip a soft cloth into the mixture and rub the mixture gently onto stained area.
  3. Rinse area with cold water to remove solution.
  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 until the pencil stain is completely gone.
  5. If the pencil stain does not respond to vinegar and dish soap mixture, try using a dry cleaning solvent. Test solvent on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first to make sure it does not discolor the fabric.

Tips

  • Always test any cleaning solution or solvent on an inconspicuous area of the fabric before applying it directly to stain. This will help prevent discoloration.
  • For a deeper clean, try soaking the raincoat in a mixture of 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts water for 30 minutes.
