If you have recently noticed pencil markings on your piqué fabric, the first step is to understand the type of pencil you’re dealing with. If it is a water-soluble pencil, such as a regular #2 pencil, removing the stain is usually quite easy.

Instructions for Removing Water-Soluble Pencil Stains

  • Mix a solution of one tablespoon of liquid dish soap with two cups of warm water.
  • Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture and gently scrub the pencil stain.
  • Gently dab at the area with a clean cloth to remove any excess moisture.
  • Put the item out in sun to dry.

Instructions for Removing Non-Water Soluble Pencil Stains

  • Mix a solution of five parts rubbing alcohol to one part water.
  • Dab the solution onto the pencil stain with a cloth or sponge.
  • Use a soft brush to brush away stain.
  • Rinse off the solution with warm water and lay the item out to dry.

Tips for Removing Pencil Stains from Piqué

  • Be sure to always test a small inconspicuous area of the fabric to make sure the cleaning solution won’t damage the material.
  • Do not use hot water with any cleaning solution as it could cause the stain to set further.
  • Do not attempt to rub the stain as this will only make it worse.
