Materials Needed

  • A soft-bristled toothbrush
  • Mildly warm water
  • Mild dish soap
  • Soft cloth
  • Aluminum foil (optional)

Steps to Follow

  1. Start by taking off any dirt or grime from the jewelry by using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Try to get rid of as much as possible without scrubbing too hard.
  2. Fill a bowl with mildly warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Put the jewelry into the water and let it soak for 10 minutes.
  3. Take jewelry out of the water and use the toothbrush to gently scrub the area where pencil stains are present. Make sure to scrub evenly and not too harshly.
  4. If the pencil stains are still present after scrubbing, try wrapping the jewelry in a sheet of aluminum foil, then put it in a bowl of warm water. Let it sit for five minutes, then take it out and scrub gently.
  5. Rinse the jewelry in clean water and pat it dry with a soft cloth. Your jewelry should now be free of pencil stains and look like new!

Tips and Warnings

  • Tip : This method is best used on jewelry made of silver, gold, or other non-porous metals. Stone jewelry, such as diamonds and rubies, should not be treated with this method.
  • Warning : Do not use abrasive materials to clean the jewelry, such as steel wool, as this could cause damage to the surface.
