Method 1: Vinegar and Water

The combination of vinegar and water helps to remove stubborn stains from fabric, including pencil marks. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water together. Make sure that you stir it together to create an even consistency. Then dip a portion of a cloth into the mixture and use it to scrub the stained area of jacket. Keep in mind that this method may cause fading of certain fabrics, so make sure to test it on a small, hidden area before fully applying.

Method 2: Rubbing Alcohol

Another great way to get rid of pencil marks is using rubbing alcohol. Take a cotton ball and soak it in rubbing alcohol. Then start to gently dab the stained area of jacket with it. Keep dapping until the stain begins to lighten. If the stain remains after multiple rounds of dapping, try adding a bit of detergent as well.

Method 3: Baking Soda Paste

This is an effective method for removing tough stains from all types of fabric. To create paste, mix equal parts of baking soda and water in a bowl. You want the mixture to be thick enough to stick to the stained fabric. Take paste and spread it onto the stained area. Leave it to sit for at least 30 minutes before rubbing it off with a damp cloth to complete process.

Method 4: WD-40

WD-40 is a commonly used lubricant that can be helpful in cleaning a variety of things, including pencil stains on jackets. Spray some of the WD-40 onto the stained area, making sure to cover the entire mark. Once the stain has been completely saturated with the product, take a cloth and rub it off. Finish the cleaning process with a final round of washing and drying.

Tips for Preventing Pencil Stains

  • Check your pockets for forgotten items before throwing any garments into washing machine.
  • Keep a sturdy pencil case and put any writing utensils in it to help avoid messy accidents.
  • Store pencils separately from other items and keep them away from fabrics to reduce risk of staining.
  • Be mindful of what fabrics you are writing on. Some materials are more prone to staining than others, so avoid writing on them when possible.
  • If you accidentally get a pencil stain, act quickly to address it before it sets.
