Supplies Needed for Cleaning Pencil Stains

  • White vinegar
  • Cotton swabs
  • Dish soap

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Take a dry cotton swab and use it to blot the stain and absorb as much of the graphite as you can. Avoid rubbing the spot too much, as this could grind the pencil lead into the fabric.

Step 2: Apply Vinegar

Pour a bit of white vinegar onto a cotton swab and dab it on the stain. Let the vinegar sit on the stain for a few minutes before using a clean cloth to blot it away.

Step 3: Soak in Soapy Water

Create a soapy solution by mixing a few drops of dish soap with warm water. Soak the stained area for about five minutes. Use your finger to gently rub the soapy mixture out of the fabric. Rinse with cold water and then launder as usual.
