The quickest and easiest way to get rid of pencil stains from a cocktail dress is by using a detergent specifically designed for removing ink. Look for a non-toxic, bleach-free detergent that won't damage the fabric. Before applying the detergent, check the cleaning instructions for your dress to make sure it is color fast and won't bleed. If your dress is too delicate for detergents, there are other options.
If your dress is dry-clean only, applying rubbing alcohol may help remove pencil stains. Put a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a white cloth and dab at the stain gently. Do not scrub or rub the stain, as this could cause it to spread. After stain has been removed, rinse the area with cold water and let it air dry.
If all else fails, you can try using a safe, non-chlorine bleach. Apply a small amount to the stain and allow it to sit for about five minutes. Then, rinse the dress in cold water and use a soft cloth to remove any remaining residue. When finished, hang the dress to dry in a well-ventilated area.
No matter what method you choose, testing solution on a hidden area of the dress first will help ensure you don’t damage the material.
