What is Charmeuse Fabric?

Charmeuse is a soft, lightweight, and glossy fabric that is made from silk or polyester. It is usually used to make garments with a drapey and luxurious look. Because it is so delicate, it can be easily stained and damaged.

Steps to Clean Pencil Stains from Charmeuse

  1. Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and lukewarm water.
  2. Soak the stained area of the charmeuse fabric in the solution for 30 minutes.
  3. Gently scrub the stain with an old toothbrush.
  4. Rinse fabric with clean, cool water.
  5. Soak the fabric in a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap and 2 cups warm water for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Scrub the stain with an old toothbrush.
  7. Rinse with cool water until all traces of soap are gone.
  8. Lay fabric flat to dry.

Additional Tips

  • If the stain is still present after cleaning, try doing a hot water cycle in the washing machine to help remove remaining stain.
  • Be sure to use a gentle detergent when washing charmeuse fabric.
  • Hang the item to air dry, as excess heat from a dryer can damage the fabric.
