What You'll Need to Remove Pencil Stains on Cashmere

  • A damp cloth
  • Sudsy water (use a mild detergent or laundry soap)
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda

Instructions for Removing Pencil Stains from Cashmere

  1. Remove any excess graphite or lead with a clean, damp cloth. If necessary, lightly scrub the stain in circles.
  2. Mix one teaspoon of laundry detergent or mild soap in one quart of warm water. Soak the stained fabric in the soapy water for 15 minutes.
  3. Wash the cashmere by hand with the soapy water. Rinse the garment with clean water.
  4. In a separate container, mix 1/4 cup white vinegar with 1/4 cup of cold water. Soak the stained fabric in this solution for 10 minutes.
  5. Blot the stain with a clean cloth. If stain persists, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1/4 cup of cold water and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse the area with cold water.
  6. Allow cashmere to air dry.

  • Always wash cashmere garments in cold water and by hand.
  • Use a gentle detergent or laundry soap specifically made for delicate fabrics.
  • Lay the garment flat on a towel and let it air-dry completely.
