If you often carry a pencil within pocket of your cardigan, chances are it will leave a mark. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps that you can take to effectively clean out these pencil stains without ruining your garment:

1. Pre-treat with a Stain Remover

Using a pre-treatment product like OxiClean or Shout can help dissolve the pencil-stain and make it easier to remove. Apply some of the stain remover directly onto stained area and let it sit for a few minutes before washing.

2. Gently Scrub Away the Stain

Once you’ve applied the stain remover and allowed it to do its work, it’s time to actually scrub away the stain. Use a soft-bristle brush to gently scrub stained area in a circular movement. This will help loosen up any remaining stain particles so they can be washed away.

3. Wash With Cold Water

After scrubbing stain, take the cardigan and place it inside a basin or sink filled with cold water. Let it soak for about 10–15 minutes, making sure to regularly agitate the fabric so that the cold water can penetrate the fibers of the fabric and help lift the stain.

4. Use a Detergent or Soap

Add a mild detergent or soap to the cold water and let the cardigan soak for another 10–15 minutes. Make sure to use a detergent or soap that is specifically designed for delicate fabrics so as not to damage the knit of your cardigan.

5. Rinse With Clean Water

Rinse the cardigan with a fresh supply of clean water. Be sure to rinse out all the soap and detergent residue so as not to leave any residue which may result in further staining.

6. Air Dry

Once cardigan is clean and rinsed, hang it up to air dry. To prevent fading or discoloration, make sure to keep the cardigan out of direct sunlight or any other sources of heat, and away from sharp objects or surfaces that may snag the fabric.

7. Check for Any Remaining Stains

Once the cardigan has dried, check for any remaining stains. If any stains remain, repeat the cleaning process until the cardigan is stain-free.

Conclusion

By following these easy steps, you should be able to successfully remove any pencil stains from your cardigan. Remember to use the appropriate cleansers and to be gentle while scrubbing the stain. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to preserving your garments. Good luck!
