Removing the Stain
The first step is to identify which material the blazer is made of. This will help determine best way to remove the pencil stain. Some materials that blazers are made from are: leather, polyester/cotton, wool, and silk.
Once you have identified the material, you can proceed with removing the pencil stain. Here are some tips for each of the materials:
- Leather: Dab a damp cloth on the stain and allow it to sit for a few moments. Then, use a barely damp cloth with a small amount of mild detergent to clean the area. Finally, use a dry cloth to wipe away the soapy residue.
- Polyester/Cotton: Using an old toothbrush, mix two parts baking soda and one part water to create a paste. Apply the paste directly onto the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, rinse the area with cold water and dab dry with a clean towel.
- Wool: Mix 1 teaspoon of vinegar with 1 cup of water and apply the mixture to a soft cloth. Dab the cloth onto the stained area until the stain has been removed. Finally, blot the area dry with a clean cloth.
- Silk: To remove a pencil stain from silk, mix two parts cornstarch with one part water and apply the mixture to the stain. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes, then gently brush the area with a toothbrush to remove any residue. Rinse with cold water and dab the area with a clean cloth.
