Start by gathering your tools:
Before you begin to scrub, it's important to remove as much of the pencil stain as possible. Fill the container or sink you prepared earlier with cold water, and add one tablespoon of detergent per gallon of water. Place your garment in the water, making sure all of stain is fully submerged. Allow the garment to soak for at least an hour.
Once the garment has soaked for an hour, remove it from the water and lay it flat on a clean surface. Use your soft-bristled brush to gently scrub stained area, working in a circular motion to release the remaining pencil marks. Rinse the garment with cold water to remove any detergent.
Now that most of the pencil stain has been removed, it's time to machine wash the garment. Make sure to wash the garment in cold water, and use a gentle cycle if available. Avoid the dryer, as heat will permanently set the stain. If some of pencil mark remains after washing, repeat steps one and two.
Clean pencil stains from Banana Republic clothing doesn't have to be a daunting task. With the right tools and techniques, you can quickly and easily remove most pencil marks, leaving your favorite garments looking like new.
