Things You'll Need

  • Soft cloth
  • Warm water
  • Mild detergent solution
  • Dry cleaning fluid (optional)

Step 1: Blotting

Use a soft dry cloth to blot the stain and absorb as much of paint as possible. Do not rub, as this will only spread paint further and could potentially ruin the wallpaper.

Laying the cloth over the stain and pressing lightly for several seconds can help absorb excess paint.

Step 2: Washing with Mild Detergent

Mix warm water and a mild detergent solution in a bowl or bucket. Dip a clean cloth into the soapy water and wring out most of it.

Gently wipe the stained area with the damp cloth, using circular motions. Do not scrub, as this could damage the wallpaper. Repeat this process until the paint stain is no longer visible.

Step 3: Drying

Once you are done washing, use a dry cloth to dry area. Make sure that the wallpaper is completely dry before attempting any other cleaning methods.

Step 4: Dry Cleaning Fluid

If the stain is still not removed after following the above steps, it may be necessary to use a dry cleaning fluid. Use a small amount of the fluid on a clean cloth, and dab the stain until it is removed. Be careful to not overuse fluid, as it could damage the wallpaper.

Tips

  • It's important to test the cleaning method on an inconspicuous area beforehand, as some wallpaper types may be sensitive to certain cleaning products.
  • In case of stubborn stains, try using a combination of the above steps. For example, combine a mild detergent solution with a dry cleaning fluid for better results.
