Before beginning, make sure you are stocked up with the proper materials. You'll need lukewarm water, mild non-bleach detergent, rubbing alcohol, a white cloth, and an old toothbrush. If the paint has dried, you may also need a blunt scraper and trisodium phosphate (TSP).
Run the stained area under lukewarm water for a few minutes to help loosen the stain. Then dab the stain gently with a cloth dampened with a mix of water and detergent. Finally, use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol to spot treat the stain if it is stubborn.
If the stain still isn't completely gone, wash the voile in the washer on a gentle cycle. Use warm or cool water and a small amount of mild detergent or soap. For stubborn stains, add about a ½ cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle.
Hang voile to dry outside in the shade, or indoors on a clothesline or drying rack. Do not put it in the dryer, as the heat will cause the stain to set.
Once the voile has dried, use an old toothbrush to brush at any remaining stain particles. If the paint is still not completely gone, re-treat using lukewarm water and detergent mixture followed by rubbing alcohol. For particularly tough stains, mix TSP with water to create a paste and scrub stain with an old toothbrush.
Painting accidents don't have to mean disaster for your voile! With these tips, you can get rid of paint stains easily and without damaging the fabric. Just remember to work quickly, use the right supplies, and follow the cleaning steps above.
