Step 1: Identify Paint Type

The first step is to determine what type of paint has been spilled onto your Under Armour. Latex paint is water-based and will respond well to a cleaning solution, while oil-based paints are more difficult to remove. If the paint is still wet, you should immediately soak a paper towel in cold water and lay it over the stained area for five minutes. This will stop the paint from spreading and hardening.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Next, you should pre-treat the stain with a stain remover or laundry detergent. Apply the cleaner directly on stain and allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes and then rinse with cold water. You may need to repeat this process until the stain no longer appears.

Step 3: Launder as Normal

When the stain is gone, you can machine wash Under Armour garment as usual with cold water. You may want to use a color-safe bleach to help brighten the colors or an oxygen based cleaner for stain removal. After washing, hang the garment up to air-dry.

Tips for Future Prevention

Paint stains, especially from oil-based paint, can be difficult to remove. As a preventative measure, you should always handle projects carefully and wear protective gear such as long pants and long sleeves. Make sure to put newspaper or other protective material under any area where you’re painting or working with paint.
