No matter if it's a spot of paint from a DIY project gone wrong or your child's latest masterpiece, paint stains on umbrellas can cause panic. But those stains don't have to stay forever. Here's how to remove them:

What You'll Need

  • Non-bleach laundry detergent
  • Soft-bristled brush
  • Cloths
  • Water

Instructions

  1. Test the detergent on the umbrella fabric in an inconspicuous area to ensure there won't be any discoloration when using it to remove the stain.
  2. Mix a small amount of non-bleach laundry detergent with warm water.
  3. Using a soft-bristled brush, gently scrub the painted area until stain begins to lift.
  4. Dampen a cloth with warm water and use it to rinse off soapy mixture and any remaining paint residue.
  5. Pat area dry with a separate cloth.

If you want to prevent paint stains from happening again, make sure to put a drop cloth or old sheet beneath the umbrella whenever painting is going on nearby.
