The first step in removing paint stains is to remove any excess paint. Take a damp cloth, and gently dab at affected area. Be sure to not rub too hard—alternating light pressure is best. Be sure to also change the cloth often, as to not spread paint.
Once the excess paint has been removed, it's time to pre-treat the stain with detergent. Lather a small amount of laundry detergent onto the stained area. Allow the detergent to sit for 10-15 minutes before moving on to next step.
The next step is to soak the stained area in cold water. Allow the fabric to soak for 30 minutes. This will help remove any remaining paint and detergent.
If there is still some stubborn paint remaining, it's time to apply a solvent or paint remover. Be sure to use one that is safe for fabrics. After applying the solution, rinse the fabric thoroughly with cold water.
After all the stains have been removed, the last step is to wash the trench coat in the washing machine. Choose a gentle cycle and use cold water. To ensure that all the paint has been removed, add a few drops of color-safe bleach to the load.
Now you know how to clean paint stains from your trench coat!
