Before you do anything else, lay the sundress flat and use a soft cloth to blot up as much of the paint as possible. Do not rub it in, as this may spread the stain further.
Check the label of your sundress to make sure you’re not treating it with something it can’t handle. Some fabrics are more sensitive than others. If it’s labeled “dry clean only,” take it to the cleaners instead.
If your sundress is okay to handle with detergent and water, mix one part detergent to four parts cold water and pretreat the stain with it. Use a soft cloth to dab it on the fabric, being careful not to spread the stain any further. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse it with cold water.
If the stain is still there afterward, you can try applying a stain remover. Read the instructions on the label carefully, and apply it according to directions. Once you’ve finished, wash dress as normal.
Hang the sundress up to dry, making sure that the stained area is facing down. Sunlight can help to fade the remaining stain, but make sure you don’t leave it too long; otherwise, the sun could cause the fabric to fade.
With a bit of patience and some elbow grease, you can remove paint stains from your sundress and restore it back to its original condition. Once you’ve successfully gotten the stain out, you can enjoy your favorite dress again.
