Getting paint splatters on stockings is undoubtedly a disappointment. They can ruin an outfit instantly, so it’s best to get rid of them as fast as possible. However, having to take off paint stains from stockings can be quite challenging at the same time. With a bit of knowledge and a few handy tools, you can make sure your stockings are back in pristine condition in no time!
First and foremost, you should always check the care labels on the stockings for cleaning instructions. Different types of fabric and dyes require different cleaning methods, so it’s essential to read the labels before you start cleaning. If the stockings don’t have a care label or instructions, then simply opt for hand-washing them.
Fill up a sink with cold water and add a teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent. Put the stockings in the water and make sure they’re completely submerged. Let them soak for around 30 minutes or more, if the stain is stubborn. This will help break down the paint pigment and make it easier to clean stockings.
Once the stocking has been sufficiently soaked, you’ll have to rub it gently with a soft toothbrush dipped in mild detergent. Switch between circular and scrubbing motions, but be careful not to damage the material. Start from the edges of the stain and work your way towards the center. You may need to apply some force while scrubbing for several minutes. Afterward, rinse off stockings with cold water to remove the soap residue.
If the stain still hasn’t come off even after scrubbing, just repeat steps 2 and 3 until the paint is completely removed. Finally, squeeze out the excess water and lay the stockings to air dry. Don’t use a towel, as that might cause streaks on the fabric. Once dry, the stockings will look as good as new.
