What You'll Need
- A plastic container large enough to hold item
- Detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics
- A soft paper towel or cloth
- Vinegar
- A spoon
Step-by-Step Process
- Fill container with cold water and add a capful of detergent into the water. Stir the mixture with the spoon until the detergent is distributed evenly.
- Submerge the item into the soapy water and press the fabric gently. Do not scrub or rub the fabric as it may cause more damage.
- Allow the item to soak for 15 minutes.
- Remove the item from the solution and blot the stain gently with a soft paper towel or cloth.
- Mix 1 part vinegar with 5 parts water in a separate container, stirring as before.
- Submerge the item once more and allow it to soak for 15 minutes.
- Rinse the item with cold running water until no traces of vinegar remain.
- Lay the item flat on a clean paper towel or cloth and allow it to air dry.
Precautions and Tips
- Never use warm or hot water when dealing with delicate fabrics like silk taffeta.
- If the stain persists, repeat the cleaning process using a clean cloth and making sure not to rub the fabric.
- When it's time to rinse, use cold water only to prevent any color bleeding or distortion of fabric.
- Always air-dry your item and never put it in the dryer.
