What You'll Need

  • A plastic container large enough to hold item
  • Detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics
  • A soft paper towel or cloth
  • Vinegar
  • A spoon

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Fill container with cold water and add a capful of detergent into the water. Stir the mixture with the spoon until the detergent is distributed evenly.
  2. Submerge the item into the soapy water and press the fabric gently. Do not scrub or rub the fabric as it may cause more damage.
  3. Allow the item to soak for 15 minutes.
  4. Remove the item from the solution and blot the stain gently with a soft paper towel or cloth.
  5. Mix 1 part vinegar with 5 parts water in a separate container, stirring as before.
  6. Submerge the item once more and allow it to soak for 15 minutes.
  7. Rinse the item with cold running water until no traces of vinegar remain.
  8. Lay the item flat on a clean paper towel or cloth and allow it to air dry.

Precautions and Tips

  • Never use warm or hot water when dealing with delicate fabrics like silk taffeta.
  • If the stain persists, repeat the cleaning process using a clean cloth and making sure not to rub the fabric.
  • When it's time to rinse, use cold water only to prevent any color bleeding or distortion of fabric.
  • Always air-dry your item and never put it in the dryer.
